a family business
built on relationships

It may be an internationally renowned brand but at its heart Ronald Abram is a family business built on relationships, each one a testament to the personalised approach taken by its founders, Ronald and Joyce. In time, these client relationships became family friendships, ones that have continued over the decades across multiple generations.

The success of our brand is a testament to the relationship between my wife & I. We built this together.

A passion for perfection and connection

Ronald Abram started his career in the heady days of 1960s New York when an exciting new era in modern jewellery was just beginning. He joined his family business Siba as a courier, delivering stones to houses such as Van Cleef & Arpels, David Webb and Harry Winston. Even then he found he had an intuition for gems and began to develop a fascination with jewellery.

Strengthening his reputation with a sincere and fervent approach, Ronald soon gained international stature in the specialised world of rare jewels. His passion for perfection and connection then took him to Italy where he established the European office for his family. It was there that he started to fall in love with Art Deco design and its power to transcend geometry to create works that were functional as well as beautiful.

By the 1970’s Ronald, together with his father and elder brother Sam, had expanded the company’s international operations, with branches in Milan, Bogota, Bombay, Bangkok, and Hong Kong, advising collectors and trading in some of the world’s most sought-after gems. At the time, Siba was renowned for being one of the few houses that specialised in exceptional sapphires, rubies, emeralds and diamonds with most dealers only trading in a single stone category.

After several years in Europe, Ronald moved to Asia and settled in Hong Kong together with his wife Joyce. It was a bold move but one he knew would be rewarding. Hong Kong was a bustling city with a growing appetite for sophistication and luxury as well as a desire for quality. By the 1980’s Ronald had gone out on his own establishing the Ronald Abram brand with Joyce. Their foresight drew them to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel where they opened the Ronald Abram flagship salon, which is a landmark for jewellery collectors and connoisseurs.

After more than five decades in the industry, Ronald still has the same passion and fascination with stones he first had as a young man. An early enchantment that's been refined over time by knowledge and experience. If you visit the salon or office today you can still find him at his desk studying stones and working with his son, JJ just as his father and older brother did with him. After all, it's what he knows and loves.
